dacro I bow to your superior knowledge.
Summary Harry is a hero, leader, loyal friend and lover. Harry is also exceedingly jealous, which has consequences for everyone.
Concrit is welcomed and appreciated.
Detecting no other magical signature, Draco cautiously emerged from his hiding place in the recreation room near to the Apparition entrance of the base, ending the Disillusionment Charm he’d cast when the attack began. He stepped forward to gaze down at Nott's wide eyed expression of shock, frozen in time by death. Draco sneered in contempt at the fallen man before him; it had been an easy kill.
Nott had been careless, momentarily distracted by the fire as it leapt up the far wall of the entrance hall to the ceiling above; mesmerized by the hypnotic dance of scarlet, orange and gold. Flames now unfurled gracefully in opposite directions with a sigh, licking and caressing the edges of the ceiling before approaching Draco, weaving their way rapidly toward him across the diminishing space in between. He needed to move, now, to stay alive.
The pre-dawn raid on the Order’s second base of operations had been well planned and swiftly executed, catching those members present by surprise. The Death Eaters had moved through the building with the surety of inside knowledge, killing anyone they found in their path. Draco had managed to avoid the search and destroy group, frantically looking for Harry without giving his location away.
Such was the unexpectedness of the attack that Draco discovered most of the bodies of the Order members in the sleeping quarters on the upper level of the building, when he finally reached it. The scene before him looked like a tableau of macabre statues: some lying partially out of their beds, others slumped around the room in various stages of dress.
Seamus Finnigan caught Draco's attention, lying on his back, naked, across Lavender Brown's stomach in one corner of the dormitory. Draco slowly moved across the rose-hued room, now bathed in the rising sun’s warm light, to see if Seamus and Lavender were truly dead. He barely registered the finger shaped bruises marring Lavender’s open thighs and upper arms because he couldn't take his eyes off what he had initially thought was red Gryffindor underwear - except underwear didn't glisten or seep into bedding.
The true horror of what he was looking at finally sank in. Draco turned away from the sight before him and vomited on to the floor, unable to stop retching until there was nothing left in his stomach. With trembling fingers he wiped the remains of the acrid liquid away from his mouth and glanced around once more, feeling an unusual surge of pity for those who had been frantically trying to get dressed with fumbling fingers that had refused to cooperate in the rush to do battle with the interlopers.
They hadn't stood a chance.
He grabbed a blanket from the next bed and gently covered Seamus and Lavender's bodies. It was a pointless gesture, he knew, given the circumstances. But the thought of leaving the lovers so exposed, before the fire consumed them, just seemed wrong.
Draco grimaced as he swallowed, his throat burning from his earlier vomiting and the smoke that was now seeping into the room through the floorboards. Scanning his surroundings as best as he could through the growing murk, he searched for any sign of life, but detected nothing except the roiling smoke and hungry flames now visible through the doorway, barring his exit via the stairs he had used earlier.
Draco turned and marched towards the smaller stairs at the opposite end of the room that would lead down to the eating area, hoping they were clear, he didn’t want to draw attention to himself by using magic to Apparate. He almost cried with relief when he saw only a small amount of rubble littering the steps so far. After checking behind him to see if his back was clear, he made his way down into the heat rising from the room below.
Struggling to breathe in the furnace the eating area was rapidly becoming, Draco tore off a strip of his filthy robe, soaked it in water from the sink and wrapped it around his face, covering his nose and mouth. The smell of charred flesh through the cloth was nauseating, an unpleasant addition to the cocktail of dust and fumes already present.
The heat from the fire was intense in this part of the building with so much wood to feed upon. Draco’s eyes itched, but no tears came to wash them with relief. Stumbling across the debris strewn floor and several more bodies he didn’t have time to identify, Draco made his way towards the door he knew would eventually lead to the area at the back of the building containing the entrance to the cellar and the hidden passageway – the rear lobby.

Date: 2006-11-03 08:25 pm (UTC)Secondly, you know me - I love to pitch people into the action and reveal past events through the narrative. More will be revealed in part 3.
The NaBloPoMo stands for National Blog (LJ) Posting Month i.e. a post every day. I've set myself the challenge of kicking my own arse and finishing some of these plot bunnies that have been caged for months.

A post every day? Wow! But *wags finger* I believe fandom is for fun, not for stress? *grins* Never mind me… Good for me, so I know there will be part three sometime later…
