Still on about that video

After watching the lovely lads *points to icon* engaging in more intimate activities in this video, several of you have mentioned that fucking bareback is not a safe practice which got me thinking about how I write sex scenes.
I have never had Harry or Draco use a condom; I always rely on the good old protection spell. But, assuming wizards in the HP verse used such a thing, would a spell actually be able to protect against a sexually transmitted disease? And if it could, then wouldn't magic protect against all disease?
Are we, the writers that let the lads engage in bareback sex, even if it is fiction, being irresponsible to our readers? Should we be promoting safe sex and the use of condoms in both slash and het fic, especially the one night stands and rent boy/girl fics?

Now, are we talking UK or US version here? it's been a while since I've seen either, but I do remember there was even a fight between the main when one said he wouldn't mind if the other didn't want to use one. Main (US-Brian(Stuart character)) yelled at him (Justin (nathan)) and gave him a really fierce lecture to never EVER do that EVER. etc. iirc.

I remember reading a fic (and I wish I could remember who wrote it) where everyone in hogwarts had to go for aids testing because it'd finally reared its ugly head in the wizarding world, and they had no way to combat it because it wasn't something they really knew anything about. I think harry and draco went to it together, but I can't recall. And another one where draco had something due to relations he'd had with a muggle... so I know there ARE fic out there that deal with this sort of thing (hell I'm in the middle of one myself) but by and large as far as wizard-fic goes, it's not something you need to be as closely watching as, say, real people fics, or fics in fandoms that don't have magical solutions.
did that make any sense?
